The lure of colour

The Lure of Colour is an interactive visual novel crafted for the minor program Interactive Narrative Design at HKU.

The narrative is based on three of the thirty six dramatic situations proposed by Georges Polti. The story follows our protagonist, who reunites with their grandparents for a tranquil weekend on the family farm, a place not visited since childhood. However, this time around, the weekend is far from the comforting experience they expected as a suppressed traumatic memory slowly comes to the surface.

Made with Ren'Py, this interactive novel utilizes choice-tracking and callbacks to immerse players in different facets of the narrative, each choice shaping the unique trajectory and ending of the playthrough. This branching system affords players agency, manifested through elements such as dialogue, monologue, sound design, and visuals.
